The first working sessions of 2005 saw considerable effort put towards repairing the serious corrosion under 81002's cab ends. In addition, new arrival 89001 was given a thorough survey before its low voltage circuits were restored and re-energised.

Throughout spring 2005 bodywork repairs to 81002 progressed steadily.
