The two surviving 86/1s, 86101 and 86102, were moved to long-term storage at MoD Longtown on 18th December 2002. In early 2005 the two locos were inspected by the Group's engineers and 86101 selected as in the best condition. 86102 was immediately scrapped by HSBC whilst 86101 was moved to MoD Ashchurch in early July for storage.
