Following the appearance of 87101 on an EWS tender list, members of the group put in an unsuccessful bid to try to secure the loco for preservation. Sadly industry players placed very high bids and the loco was bought for component recovery to provide spares for the 87/0 fleet.
Fortunately for us, the disposal and component recovery took place at Barrow Hill and we were able to purchase some of the non-standard equipment that made 87101 unique.
